Spaces around South Bank/Cultural Centre

Space Hunting

Phase 1 of our project deliverables includes site surveys. This involves finding suitable public sites for deploying our installation. For this section of phase 1, five interesting locations will be needed. The spaces below have been put into consideration due to the traffic and spaciousness of the area. Further details about each location has been documented and can be found below.

Location: Museum and Science Centre near the Cultural Centre Station
Approximate Demographics: A broad range of people, includes: families with children mostly(broad age range), local and international students(primary and high school), school faculty, tour groups and foreigners.
Additional notes: In the third photo(the one with the screens on the green wall), these guys were playing around with the interactive screens and I noticed that the screens above theirs would carry out the same thing they were doing. I just thought this was pretty clever because in a scenario where the bottom screen gets crowded around by people, the ones standing at the back can still see what's going on by looking at the screens on top.

Location: Walkway outside of museum that leads to the state library
Approximate Demographics: Very broad range of people since it is a walkway, some include: staff from museum, security office, and cafe.
Additional notes: This place is generally very crowded during the day coming from all the facilities around

Location: State Library of Queensland
Approximate Demographics: students, faculty, researchers, families with children, staff from offices around

Location: Large open area located between GOMA and the state library

Location: GOMA
Approximate Demographics: similar to the ones mentioned above since they are located around the same area
Additional notes: The last two photographs are of an interactive space of some sort. It involves sticking your head in the little space to see the screen and using the mouse to navigate your way around the program. I just thought it was interesting how it required you to stick your face in to have a better look at what's going on.

Preliminary Concept Maps

These concept maps were formed during out first studio session as a team. This activity was just to get us thinking about general ideas and attributes about dystopias, utopias, and public spaces.
